One Month Live: 5,000+ People, 80,000+ Searches, and What’s Next for YardSnipe
One month ago, YardSnipe went live. What has happened since then has gone far beyond what we expected from our first month.
In just our first month, YardSnipe has:
- Served more than 5,000 people
- Been visited more than 9,000 times
- Powered more than 80,000 vehicle searches
Those numbers are exciting, especially for a platform this new, but one number stands out more than almost anything else:
72.2% of YardSnipe’s traffic has come from word of mouth.
For us, that means something. It means people are finding YardSnipe, using it, seeing value in what we are building, and then telling somebody else about it.
Every person who has shared the site with a friend, sent somebody a yard page, talked about YardSnipe in a group, recommended it to another parts hunter, or simply told somebody to check it out has helped move the platform forward.
We are incredibly grateful for that support.
Built to Make Junkyard Searching Easier
YardSnipe started with a simple problem:
Finding the right vehicle or used part in a salvage yard is harder than it should be.
Inventory is spread across different yard websites. Search systems vary from one company to another. Some yards provide detailed records, while others provide very little. And when interchange or fitment gets involved, finding the right donor can quickly turn into hours of research.
YardSnipe is being built to bring more of that information together in one place.
Instead of checking yard after yard individually, the goal is to make it easier to search across salvage inventory, identify possible donor vehicles, understand what may fit, and make a better-informed trip before spending the time and fuel to get there.
The response during our first month has shown us that we are not the only ones who wanted something like this.
More Than 80,000 Vehicle Searches
More than 80,000 vehicle searches have already been performed through YardSnipe.
That is one of the clearest signals we could ask for. People are actively using the platform to look for real vehicles in real salvage-yard inventory.
Whether someone is searching for a donor for their own repair, hunting for a hard-to-find component, researching inventory before visiting a yard, or looking for parts they may be able to resell, the basic need is the same:
Find the right donor without wasting the trip.
That remains one of the core problems YardSnipe is designed to solve.
Word of Mouth Is Driving YardSnipe
Search traffic, social media, and other sources will continue to become more important as YardSnipe grows, but seeing 72.2% of our first-month traffic come from word of mouth means a lot to us.
Organic recommendations cannot be forced. People share something because they think another person may actually find it useful.
That is exactly the kind of growth we want.
We have already started making that process easier by adding dedicated sharing tools to yard pages throughout YardSnipe.
If you find a useful salvage yard or inventory source, you can share that yard directly with somebody else who may need it.
As the platform grows, we want YardSnipe to become more than a search tool. We want it to become a resource people naturally send to each other when somebody says:
“I’m trying to find this car.”
“I need this part.”
“Does anybody know where one of these is sitting?”
That type of usefulness is what we are building toward.
The First 400,000 Parts Are Getting Closer
Vehicle inventory is only one part of the larger YardSnipe project.
Behind the scenes, our first batch of approximately 400,000 parts has been moving through the research process.
That work is getting closer to completion, and those records will soon begin making their way into the YardSnipe Parts Database.
This is a major step for the platform.
The Parts Database is being built to give users another way to approach salvage-yard searching.
Instead of starting only with a year, make, and model, users will be able to research parts themselves.
That includes data such as:
- OEM part numbers
- Vehicle fitment
- Compatible applications
- Donor vehicle information
This becomes especially useful when the exact vehicle you own is not sitting in a nearby yard.
A compatible part may have been used across multiple years, models, trims, or even different vehicles. Knowing that can dramatically expand the number of potential donors available to you.
Search for the Part — Then Find the Donor
One of the biggest advantages of the Parts Database will be the ability to approach a search from the part number itself.
Imagine you need a specific component and already know the OEM part number.
Instead of trying to manually figure out every vehicle that may have used it, YardSnipe is being built to help connect that part number with fitment information and compatible donor vehicles.
That means the process can begin looking more like:
Identify the part → Find compatible vehicles → Search salvage-yard inventory for those donors.
That is a very different experience from guessing which years or models might interchange.
As the database becomes deeper and more thoroughly verified, we expect that capability to become increasingly useful for DIY repairers, mechanics, restorers, resellers, and anyone hunting difficult-to-find used parts.
Market Analytics Will Come Later
Some of the underlying research also supports the future Market Analytics side of YardSnipe.
That system is intended to help evaluate things such as market activity, demand, value, and other information that can help users understand whether a part may be worth pulling.
However, Market Analytics will be disabled when the initial Parts Database begins rolling out.
We want to continue building, testing, and validating that portion of the system before making it available publicly.
The priority is accuracy.
We would rather release features gradually and continue improving the underlying information than expose analytics before we are confident they are ready.
The initial Parts Database will still represent a major expansion of YardSnipe even without Market Analytics enabled.
One Month Down
YardSnipe is only one month into its life as a public platform.
There is still an enormous amount of work ahead.
More yards. More inventory. More parts. Better fitment information. Better verification. More ways to find the donor you need.
But seeing more than 5,000 people use YardSnipe, more than 9,000 visits, more than 80,000 vehicle searches, and so much of that growth coming from people recommending the platform to each other has made our first month something we will remember.
To everybody who has visited YardSnipe, tested it, shared it, sent us feedback, recommended it, or told somebody else what we are building:
Thank you.
You have already helped take YardSnipe further than we imagined it would go in its first month.
And we are just getting started.
Find Parts. Pull Profit.
